About us

As sisters growing up on a hillside in Kingston, Jamaica we witnessed many things first hand such as poverty and the everyday uncertainties that plague poor families in third world countries. Life was hard on our little island, but our childhood experiences are memories that we will forever cherish and hold dear to our heart. Memories of playing in the gully, climbing mango trees and venturing off on hillside hikes with friends are all things that make us reminisce about the past ....and how much do we miss it so!

In the early to mid 90’s our single parent mother migrated to the United States, and shortly after we followed behind her. While it has been many years since we have settled on this new soil in this foreign land that is America, we always know that there is no place like home....sweet, sweet Jamaica!

 

Motivation

Our strong desire for bringing awareness to our heritage and culture resulted in Coodeh Lifestyle®, LLC. Our goal is to create products that capture the artfully expressive elements of our dialect - Patois. Coodeh Lifestyle® gives us the opportunity to build a sense of community that is all inclusive, and allows us  to give back to our little island.

We are very proud of our Afro-Caribbean heritage; this is a genuine and authentic aspect of who we are.  That is also why we chose the name Coodeh Lifestyle®.

When you want to draw attention to something you say "coodeh", as in "look there/ here / at that" or "come check this out" .... and more often than usual the response is "Rhatid" which you could interpret as "wow/omg." Jamaica is an island rich in spirit, love, and creativity. This is our way of life, and the term Coodeh captures this cultural uniqueness quite well. After all, Jamaica is the birthplace of Reggae.....a jus suh wi dweet! 

 

Social Impact - Giving back

We know how important it is to give back which is why we have made the pledge that for every purchase made, we will donate a percentage of each sale to a primary and basic school in Jamaica. Education is the key.

 

Our goal

As we embark on this journey of entrepreneurship, we will remain focused on building a culturally grounded business that becomes a legacy for us and a sense of community for others.

Our journey in this life has encouraged us to seek out a path of differentiation. We look forward to what lies ahead.
